Variation and Add-ins

  • Toppings: Add a drizzle of white chocolate or sprinkle finely crushed nuts like pecans or almonds. You could also try sprinkling sea salt for a sweet and salty combination.
  • Shapes: Instead of cutting them into chunks, use a melon baller or metal teaspoon to cut round pieces of apples for a fun shape.
  • Candy: Swap the Rolo candies with other caramel candies or caramel-filled chocolates. You can also experiment with different flavors of caramel candies, such as salted caramel or dark chocolate-covered caramels.
  • Variety of apples: Try using different types of apples or even other fruits, like pears for a twist on the classic flavor combination. Granny Smith apples are tart and crisp and are the best apples to use, but you can also use sweeter apples like Honeycrisp or Pink Lady.
  • Spices: Sprinkle a bit of cinnamon or nutmeg on the apples before pressing them into the melted candy for a warm, spiced flavor that complements the caramel and chocolate.
  • Dip: Serve the bites with a side of caramel sauce or chocolate dip for an extra decadent treat.
